Basic Bun Beanie – Crochet Version

NOTES

  • Beginning chain does not count as a stitch
  • This pattern is worked from the top down

ABBREVIATIONS

  • slst – Slipstitch
  • ch – Chain
  • hdc – Half Double Crochet
  • fphdc – Front Post Half Double Crochet
  • bphdc – Back Post Half Double Crochet

GAUGE

12 sc = 4 inches

DIMENSIONS

  • Fits average sized teen or woman’s head (21 -23 inch circumference)
  • Finished Messy Bun Beanie should measure approximately 7.5 inches tall and 8.5 inches wide

PATTERN

Ch 32, slst to beginning ch to form a ring

ROW 1 

  • ch 1
  • hdc in each stitch around
  • slst to beginning hdc (32 sts)

ROW 2 – 3

  • ch 1
  • *fphdc in next stitch, bphdc in next stitch*
  • Repeat from * to * around
  • Slip stitch into top of first fphdc (32 sts)

ROW 4

  • ch 1
  • *fphdc in next stitch, hdc 2 in next stitch*
  • Repeat from * to * around
  • Slip stitch into top of first fphdc (48 sts)

ROW 5

  • ch 1
  • *fphdc in next stitch, hdc in next stitch, hdc 2 in next stitch*
  • Repeat from * to * around
  • Slip stitch into top of first fphdc (64 sts)

ROW 6 – 17

The Body of the Beanie is worked in continuous rounds, you will not join at the end of each row until Row 18. Place a stitch marker in the beginning stitch of the round to keep track of which stitch the round begins on.

  • hdc in each stitch around (64 sts)

ROW 18

  • hdc in each stitch around
  • Slip stitch into top of first hdc (64 sts)

BRIM

ROW 19 – 23

  • *fphdc in next stitch, bphdc in next stitch*
  • Repeat from * to * around
  • Slip stitch into top of first fphdc (64 sts)

Fasten off, weave in ends!
