Basic Bun Beanie – Weight 4 Version

YARN

You’ll need approximately 75 yards of Weight 4 Yarn.

NEEDLES

5.5 mm Needles /16” Cable

SUPPLIES

  • Stitch Marker
  • Yarn Needle
  • Scissors

GAUGE

8 sts and 13 rows = 2 inches

NOTES

  • I was able to complete the decrease portion of the beanie using my 16” cable but if you find it tricky switching to DPN’s may be helpful.

ABBREVIATIONS

  • sts  – Stitches
  • pm – Place Marker
  • k – Knit
  • k2tog – Knit 2 sts Together
  • p – Purl

DIMENSIONS

  • Fits average sized teen or woman’s head (21 -23 inch circumference)
  • Finished Messy Bun Beanie should measure approximately 8 inches tall and 8.5 inches wide

PATTERN

BRIM

Cast on 72 sts, pm and and join for working in the round.

ROW 1 – 10

  • *k1, p1*
  • Repeat from * to * around (72 sts)

BODY

  • K all sts (72 sts)

Continue until your beanie measures 6.5 inches tall (approximately 21 rows)

DECREASE

ROW 1

  • *p1, k1, k2tog*
  • Repeat from * to * around (54 sts)

ROW 2

  • *p1, k2* 
  • Repeat from * to * around (54 sts)

ROW 3

  • *p1, k2tog*
  • Repeat from * to * around (36 sts)

ROW 4 – 8

  • *p1, k1*
  • *Repeat from * to * around (36 sts)

FINISHING

Loosely bind off all remaining sts knitwise, fasten off and weave in ends!
