SUPPLIES

  • 160 Yards of Weight 4 Yarn
  • 5 mm Crochet Hook
  • Yarn Needle
  • Removable Stitch Marker
  • Scissors 

NOTES

  • Beginning chain does not count as a stitch
  • You can use any yarn, I used The Cotton from We Are Knitters to make the bag pictured.

ABBREVIATIONS

  • ch – Chain
  • slst – Slip Stitch
  • sc – Single Crochet
  • hdc – Half Double Crochet

GAUGE

Gauge is not important.

PATTERN

Begin with a Magic Ring, ch 1

ROW 1 

  • hdc 9 into Magic Ring
  • slst to first hdc (9 stitches)

ROW 2 

  • ch 1
  • 2 hdc in each stitch around
  • slst to beginning hdc (18 stitches)

ROW 3

  • ch 1
  • *hdc in next stitch, 2 hdc in next stitch*
  • Repeat from * to * around
  • slst to beginning hdc (27 stitches)

ROW 4

  • ch 1
  • *hdc in the next 2 stitches, 2 hdc in the next stitch*
  • Repeat from * to * around
  • slst to beginning hdc (36 stitches)

ROW 5

  • ch 1
  • *hdc in the next 3 stitches, 2 hdc in the next stitch*
  • Repeat from * to * around
  • slst to beginning hdc (45 stitches)

ROW 6

  • ch 1
  • *hdc in the next 4 stitches, 2 hdc in the next stitch*
  • Repeat from * to * around
  • slst to beginning hdc (54 stitches)

ROW 7

  • ch 1
  • *hdc in the next 5 stitches, 2 hdc in the next stitch*
  • Repeat from * to * around
  • slst to beginning hdc ( 63 stitches)

ROW 8

  • ch 1
  • hdc in the same stitch (mark this stitch with a stitch marker)
  • hdc in each stitch around (63 stitches)
  • Do not join

ROW 9 – 22

*Rows 9 – 22 are worked continuous row, you will not join at the end of each row, use the stitch marker to keep track of the beginning stitch of each row.

  • hdc in each stitch around (63 stitches)

ROW 23

  • hdc in each stitch around, until the last stitch
  • 2 hdc in last stitch
  • slst to beginning hdc (64 stitches)

ROW 24 – 27

  • ch 1
  • sc in each stitch around
  • slst to beginning sc (64 stitches)

ROW 28

  • ch 1
  • sc in the next 10 stitches, ch 1, skip next stitch
  • *sc in the next 6 stitches, ch 1, skip next stitch* 3 times
  • sc in the next 10 stitches, ch 1, skip next stitch
  • *sc in the next 6 stitches, ch 1, skip next stitch* 3 times
  • slst to beginning sc

ROW 29 – 31

  • ch 1
  • sc in each stitch around, including the ch spaces
  • slst to first sc (64 stitches)
  • Fasten off and weave in ends.

STRAPS

*Strap length can be adjusted by adding/omitting ch stitches.

  • ch 160
  • slst into the second ch from the hook and back across the remaining stitches
  • fasten off leaving an end that can be used to tie the ends of the strap together after strap is in place
  • Weave strap through ch spaces in Row 24, attach ends of the strap together to secure, pull to adjust straps, folding in the sides of the bag.
