SUPPLIES

NOTES

  • Beginning chain may or may not count as a stitch (noted in pattern)
  • You can use any yarn/hook you like, I used Red Heart Super Saver and a 6 mm hook to make the bags pictured.

DIMENSIONS

  • Toddler sized purse measures approximately 5.5 inches tall (not including handles) and 5 inches wide
  • Child sized purse measures approximately 6.5 inches tall (not including handles) and 7.5 inches wide.

Gauge is not important.

PATTERN – TODDLER SIZE

Begin with a Magic Ring, ch 2

ROW 1 

  • dc 10 into Magic Ring
  • slst to first dc (10 stitches)

ROW 2 

  • ch 2 (does not count as a stitch)
  • 2 dc in each stitch around
  • slst to beginning dc (20 stitches)

ROW 3

  • ch 2 (does not count as a stitch)
  • *dc in next stitch, 2 dc in next stitch*
  • Repeat from * to * around
  • slst to beginning dc (30 stitches)

ROW 4

  • ch 2 (counts as beginning dc), 2 dc in the same stitch
  • *Skip 2 stitches, 3 dc in the next stitch*
  • Repeat from * to * around
  • slst to beginning dc (30 stitches)

ROW 5 – 10

  • slst over next 2 stitches and into the first space
  • ch 2 (counts as beginning dc), 2 dc in the same space
  • *Skip next 3 stitches, 3 dc in next space*
  • Repeat from * to * around
  • slst to beginning dc (30 stitches)

ROW 11 – 12

  • ch 1 (does not count as a stitch), sc in the same stitch and in each stitch around
  • slst to beginning sc (30 stitches)

ROW 13

  • ch 50, slst in the second ch from hook and each of the next 48 stitches
  • slst into base of strap and in the next 14 stitches
  • ch 50, slst in the second ch from hook and each of the next 48 stitches
  • slst into base of strap and in the remaining stitches of the row

FINISHING

Tie the straps into a knot or a bow, fasten off, weave in ends.

PATTERN – CHILD SIZE

Begin with a Magic Ring, ch 2

ROW 1 

  • dc 11 into Magic Ring
  • slst to first dc (11 stitches)

ROW 2 

  • ch 2 (does not count as a stitch)
  • 2 dc in each stitch around
  • slst to beginning dc (22 stitches)

ROW 3

  • ch 2 (does not count as a stitch)
  • *dc in next stitch, 2 dc in next stitch*
  • Repeat from * to * around
  • slst to beginning dc (33 stitches)

ROW 4

  • ch 2 (does not count as a stitch)
  • *dc in next 2 stitches, 2 dc in next stitch*
  • Repeat from * to * around until 3 stitches remain
  • dc in next stitch, 2 dc in next 2 stitches
  • slst to beginning dc (45 stitches)

ROW 5

  • ch 2 (counts as beginning dc), 2 dc in the same stitch
  • *Skip 2 stitches, 3 dc in the next stitch*
  • Repeat from * to * around
  • slst to beginning dc (45 stitches)

ROW 6 – 14

  • slst over next 2 stitches and into the first space

  • ch 70, slst in the second ch from hook and each of the next 68 stitches
  • slst into base of strap and in the remaining stitches of the row

FINISHING

Tie the straps into a knot or a bow, fasten off, weave in ends.
